Budding Budapest; just in terms of stepping into the world space and make its voice heard. The name Buda-Pest is not catchy at all, but the place is sure a bombastic place. Wonderful Buda and an amazing Pest. Long struggle for a country that has lost on many fronts being suffocated in the tyranny of Turks, Nazi, Soviets ... A struggling economy but the high spirits of the people is worth a mention.Impressed was i by our tour guide lady Ms.Bea. Her childhood was tough and in a time when emotions where high and voices suppressed. The Soviet had stripped them of their glory. The vent to the anger- cut the star out of their flags.
The city with the river Duna, central station Kaletti and my favorite station Blaha luza ter. The metros have been planned exceptionally well with the routes criss crossing the tram lines. The opera house, the Margret island, cable bridge are the pride of the city. Legend goes that the architect of the cable bridge was so amazed by his work that he announced that he would jump off the bridge and die if anyone ever pointed out a mistake in his creation. But his fears came true when one young kid pointed out that the lion's statues installed on the bridge did not posses tongues. The architect eventually jumped into the river to give up his life. The place is full of legends as i came across two more. While walking by a bronze statue of a unknown, it struck to me that the whole piece was dark but only the pen he was holding was brightly shining. The other being the statue of a king on a horse. The horse's balls were in all glory. In both the cases the legend goes that luck and success come along by rubbing the things ... hmmmmmm ..
Bea stressed on the fact that Hungarians are very hospitable and witty. The statue of liberty that stands on a mountain top to symbolize the liberty from Nazi. The locals call the statue the bottle cork opener lady.
The city has lots of secrets and every family has a story to tell about a loss of their loved ones either in WWII , the revolution again the Soviets or the innumerable wars. The memories are still fresh here with the anger clear about the country who supressed thier independance. Bea even remembers days when the sole entertainment means was blocked by the Soviets. She was just 6 then. The parliament is a magnificient building with lots of memories again. The parliament was build in a grand fashion to show the distractors that Hungary is well capable. The courtyard has bullet marks of the bloodiest incident in Hungarian history when Soviets opened fire on a peaceful protestors. The dead were college students. The parliament has 2 more grand building opposite to it. The present parliament was the choosen winner amoung the three building. Hungarians are the salute to their resilience. First Christianity was forced for survival and then the blunder continued. A day awaits in future when the Hungarian Florints will make way for the Euro. Again Florint was coined by their Italian king who liked Florence more than anything else. Hungary will be on its feet to raise its head well above in the EU.
