Independence at what cost ?

It was a pleasant Sunday; usual sundry daily buzz. Evening, past the Bangalore book festival, a stage where kids were enacting a drama. The background score and the body language of those tiny nuggets into the world of theater was a keystone; i halted in my walk towards some hot beverages and started following the play. It was simple in the start, a teacher describing our independence war and how people laid down their lives for the nation. The play was very well interwoven with example of different independence struggles. I went round to get myself a hot ( watery) cup of tea for self as the play was getting too predictable. After munching over some hot chilly snacks and tea, i pulled up a chair and rested my tired legs. As i looked around, some real theater loving people had their eyes glued to the stage. I looked up, worried parents drooling over their child's immense pain. On repeated questioning and pampering the kid does not budge. The worried parents take him over to his teacher; who in the last days have been answering the kids questions regarding the fight to independence. That is when i understood it was not just a independence struggle theme play but independence was inter woven in the play which had a bigger theme than independence.
Even after the teachers insistence , he does not blow over his emotions and when the emotions take him over , he signs to the world his pain, his despair, his loss and ...
The song took over the crown like a thunderstorm, there was silience and heads nodding, hands covering up the tears before someone notices them. My emotions were stirred and anger thrust upon self. In the play, the kid breaks down into a emotinal song - composed by Hamselekha. Sure that song got such a ovation. The kid questions the destiny where once people laid down their lives for the sake of the very independence which is in jeopady now, he raises a hammer of questions as he cannot suppress his pain over the loss of dear friend who would have been killed in a serial bombings. None can answer him, NONE.
