Seed sown in 1957.

K.Kamaraj, the Gandhi of southern India, as he was passionately called. How many can recollect who this great politician is ? He was chief minister of TN and hailed as one of the best politician and leader of free India. What is that one seed he sowed that has bestowed good upon India ? He was instrumental in introducing the mid-day meal scheme in government managed schools in rural TN .It should not be tough to guess his intentions ; then free India was bundled down by castism, socio-economic divide, language barriers and what not. pardon me; these are present today; as i write this MNS would be rampaging in Mumbai, Bajrang dal would be on a rapeing spree(-eeee) and what not .
Kamaraj took upon the free mid-day meals to make sure all castes are brought together and have good healthy food. Good spirit of the political scenario since his demise in TN that this small scheme has seen the light all the while and has laid a profound effect on the socio situtation in TN. Today, this scheme is a world acclaimed scheme which the central government acting the supreme court order ( YES ! supreme court has to interfere; else nothing happens ) has made it mandatory for every state government to implement it. Its now christened as the common minimum program. But look upon in Karnataka, it has taken a different shape; it has spiralled into a successful business venture - can definitely say that. ISKON along with donations from corporate biggies are providing meals across Bangalore. The scale of opertion, the monetary planning are impeccable. Looking upon the scheme that was sown in 1957 or so; has now a very successful governemnt policy. Thanks to the FMs tax rebate on social spendings, more and more corporates are joining in to donate. Now the scheme not just provides healthy meals but also provides iron suppliments and regualr deworming. Of late, a good goverment scheme that deserves a applaud.
